Manual Coffee Depulper in Nicaragua

in

This was a manual coffee depulper (despulpadora) we used at Abundance Farm in Nicaragua.

The first year we harvested and processed a mere 500 pounds or so.  The second year, thanks to our painstaking maintenance of the coffee area, we harvested and processed over 5000 pounds.  The highest quality coffee is from the red coffee berries, depulped then dried for several weeks in the sun (at which point it is called pergamino).  Lower quality coffee is produced from green beans or from drying the coffee bean without depulping.  In Spanish, the red and green coffee beans are called uva before they are processed.
