More Ethanol in Costa Rica

Just noticed this article from south of the border. "all gasoline sold in [Costa Rica] will have 7 percent ethanol content [beginning in March]"

I hope it'll be good quality.... looks like they are making it from sugar cane (no surprise) but also yuca!
As for efficiency, I do think that ethanol makes more sense from sugar cane versus corn, though I don't have the data on it. As for yuca, well, that hardly seems to be famous for biomass, but what do I know.

ethanol as fuel
As an alterbative energy to use ethanol as fuel it make sense only if its create jobs and we all pay for it. remeber that the use of ethanol in a car engine uses double the amount of ethanal that gasoline. as an example, if you use 1 gallon of gasoline in a car and obtain 20 miles, you will need 2 gallons of ethanol for the same mileage.
Just like in the US where it is mandated to put 10% ethanol in gasoline, the consumer do not realize they just have a price hike but it create jobs in the corn industry.
