Jackfruit
I've found two places where jackfruit is available in Costa Rica: Punta Mona, and at the state experimental farm near Alajuela. This is a fabulous food, used in many ways, raw and cooked. Jackfruit has the distinction of being the single largest fruit in existence.

but I think another member of this site originally told me about it... you could ask at the bus station, as I remember I definitely took the bus from the bus station to get there, and it left me off right at the gate.
