When you are in the Perez Zeledon valley, this cathedral will always be visible, if not from where you are standing, then from somewhere nearby.  I never went to mass in there, but it looked charming.  There is an agricultural theme plastered on the front, cute.  The Hotel Chirripo is the typical place to spend the night right next door and has free wireless internet (about the slowest I have ever witnessed except for Bali, Indonesia).

Cathedral

 A few years ago, this cathedral the park in front were in shambles. 

The facade of the church was peeling from years of neglect and weather. The park was overgrown but none of the plants really seemed healthy. It will be exceptionally pleasant as soon as a little bit more shade is developed by the young trees
