Birth Certificates

I was able to obtain the certificate in about one month. Of course, she was born at a private hospital and the doctors there send out everything very quick. Three weeks after her birth, I went to the civil registry and asked for the birth certificate and the secretary told me to return in a week and it would be completed. I was very lucky from what I understand. Many people wait months. I guess right place, right time. My daughter was born on Jan. 15th and we were in the US by March 18th. Enough time to complete the passport paperwork and a long trip to Ojochal, too.

Thanks and Welcome

Hi Jimmy,

Thanks. Welcome to the new site! I hope you'll post your daughter's picture ;)

This week we should be doing some of the paperwork for the birth certificate. From what I've heard, it's even more complicated to get this paperwork for a home-birth than for a hospital birth. We need to get assorted forms from immigration, and forms from a hospital, and go with two witnesses to the registry, all before the standard 3-month wait... I'm sure this is going to take ages. Luckily, I'm in no hurry. How long did it take from your daughter's birth until you had the finished birth certificate in hand?

Congratulations on the birth of the baby! Also the new site.
My daughter was born in Escazú in January. We would have opted for the hospital in Cortes but to get the birth certificate from a public hospital in a short period of time is unheard of.
